COMMUNITY RULES
The Storied Imaginarium is an actively diverse community that brings together writers from every background. Our diversity is an important aspect of our educations as writers. To experience difference authentically and write about it, we must engage directly with our own limitations regarding others—our intolerances and prejudices.
We are all engaged in a common endeavor to become more understanding of difference. At the Storied Imaginarium, we strive to provide a learning environment where it is safe to take risks. Consequently, we have developed the following guidelines regarding difference in the Storied Imaginarium community:
- Treat all other writers in the Storied Imaginarium community with respect, courtesy, and humility, as well as with honesty.
- We do not issue trigger warnings on materials written in workshop. However, writers have the option of including a disclaimer at the top of their submissions if they desire to do so.
The Storied Imaginarium is committed to open-minded and progressive education in the art of writing, and to democratic traditions of freedom in creative self-expression, even as we recognize that sometimes such openness can expose members of our community to hurtful and offensive material. We hope that writers will use civility when thinking about submitting any workshop manuscript that may be offensive or painful to others in the Storied Imaginarium community. If and when writing has been found offensive, we ask readers to remember that this is imaginative work and encourage honest and respectful reports of such reactions as part of your written response to the author. Any issues with a workshop manuscript and/or comments made on the discussion board or during workshop discussion should be addressed privately with the instructor/s. The Storied Imaginarium is not legally or otherwise responsible for views expressed in students' creative or critical writing.
